4th of July – Day 4 of the trip:

We spent last night in Banff at a hotel. It was good to get out of the tent for a night. Dea has been struggling a little with sleep, but we were well rested, and anxious, for the days drive. We have been looking forward to this stretch the entire trip thus far.

Banff was a beautiful town, but a little too touristy. We had expected something like Telluride, or hoping for something like Ouray- the reality, however, was more in line with Aspen. Very chic and hip. We found an Irish pub to have a pint and lamb burgers last night, and a good cup of coffee this morning, and the rest of the day was spent viewing the most magnificent scenes yet. I got a chance to get out of the car and shoot, and Dea, Pella, and I had a blast exploring the little nooks not far from the car. Then back on the Road.

With the heart of the Canadian Rockies behind us, we are posting this from Jasper: a wonderful little mountain town that looks a little like South Western Colorado, but no time to kick around. Headed for Prince George, British Columbia tonight.

There have been many Bear sightings in the area this week. This is the view of a typical trailhead- a little scary actually.

This was the only Bear we have seen so far though.

Pella was much more active today.

The wind finally began to blow the low hanging clouds out of the valley, as we got closer to Jasper.

The white mass at the bottom of this image is all part of the Columbia Icefield. This sheet of ice is massive. The photo doesn’t do it justice, as we are over 1K away, but the sight of it was humbling.

Cheers for now

Wow, great photos! Looks like you had a great time in Banff/Jasper. Perhaps if Pella would have encountered a bear she would have scared it away!

Wow...looks like the trip has been great thus far! Your pics have been phenomenal! What's the half-way mark? Hope the rest of your excursion is safe.

Looks like you two are hitting the hills at the right time. Somehow I think these kinds of views will be the norm for you for awhile.

Awesome pics so far.

Guess you'll be saying adios to "civilization" for abit.

Stay safe and keep your eyes open, eh?

Greatly enjoying watching your trip's progress! Keep blogging. All is well here - spent the 4th at Geneva Lake at the base of Snowmass. Headed off to SW CO next week to play in the San Juans. Take care - Kathy and Greg

Hey! Those pictures look familiar! We rode bikes from Banff to Jasper, and then back, a few years back! Beautiful scenery, huh? Nice road, too. A little rainy, though! You guys are making great progess. You'll be there in no time.

hey jen. yep, the icefields parkway was magnificent, but the Alcan....oh, the Alcan is something entirely different. it's massive, and the most beautiful drive either of us have ever seen. a few bikers too- grizzly old men with tents.
